‘Form’ in Japanese. A choreographed series of movements designed as a way for practitioners to memorise and perfect the movements being executed Includes unarmed kata and armed kata (stick, double sticks and bo kata). Ninja-do practitioners can expect to learn kata with traditional weapons like short sticks and long bo on top of unarmed kata during their progression to black belt. When practitioners have attained their black belt, they can learn kata with a sword, sai, tonfa, etc. The more exotic weapons are kept at higher belt levels due to the potential dangers posed when used by unskilled practitioners. |
